Wool petticoats can be worn over or
under a hoop for added warmth and a little extra flare in
colder weather. Based on original examples these petticoats
feature a polished cotton yoke at the top of the wool panels
to reduce bulk at the waistband. They also have a pinked
scalloped hem and rows of velvet ribbon trim. Red was a
popular color but other colors were also worn. These are 35"
in length and have a 125" circumference. Waistbands close with
a hand sewn buttonhole and glass button. Sized by waist
measurement.
Quilted petticoats are worn under a hoop
for added warmth. These petticoats are made from period cotton
prints and silks, have wool batting inside, and the hems are
bound by hand with wool hem tape or velvet ribbon. Quilting patterns
and construction details are based on several original
examples. Quilting is machine sewn. Waistbands close with a
hand sewn buttonhole and glass button. Sized by waist
measurement. These are 34" in length and have a 80-95"
circumference. |
